Flip-Flops and Tex-Mex

These are a few of my favorite things!

I've had one of those "I am blessed" weekends.

So, why flip-flops & Tex-Mex? Hubby & I had one of those "we don't live extravagantly, but live well" conversations on Saturday while eating at Ninfa's for lunch in our casual shorts & flip-flop gear. We have those moments every now & then where we realize how much more blessed we are then most. We may not financially be the wealthiest, but we are very happy & heading in a great direction with our life. We have everything we need, and anything else is just bonus.

To add to that, I had a dream last night that my life was different. I had never met hubby & was married to a previous person I dated. I was absolutely miserable! In that dream or nightmare...I was in a loveless, passionless marriage & I had to do EVERYTHING around the house. It was horrible. Needless to say, I woke up this morning, cuddled the hubby, & told him how lucky I am to have him in my life. I am often aware of this, but dreams like that (of which I had never had) can definitely make you realize even more just how lucky you are.

Yes, we are blessed with our Tex-Mex, flip-flop lovin' life. :o)

I'm All Over the Place!

I'm so silly. I have been alllll over the place with the "graduation vacation" plans. More affordable, but still pretty Mexico or Hawaii? I am leaning towards Mexico since I have never done a beach vacation there & it is a bit more affordable at this time. Perhaps Hawaii again next year when I have a job!

So, then I have been debating WHERE in Mexico. I first narrowed it down to the west coast & have been thinking of Puerto Vallarta, but now we are thinking of Cabo San Lucas instead. Here is one resort that we are highly considering: Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Holistic Retreat & Spa in Cabo. Looks amazing! Total relaxation!!!!

Hopefully we will make our decision this week!

My Randomness/ Week in Review

  • According to the hubby, I am strung out on "Dog Whisperer." Yes, it is one of my new favorite TV shows. I can't help that I love dogs & am intrigued by their behaviors. I find Cesar's advice very helpful. "Scht!"

  • The semester started & I was quite busy this week with lectures & other class activities. We took a practice board review & I did OK. At least I scored right around the national average. I hate being average, but man that test was so hard!!!! ACK! Here, take a test on everything about medicine. Yeah, lets see you get 100%! I have A LOT more studying to do..... But it is a good motivator for me to keep it up! Oh well, in medicine, you have to study the rest of your life anyway. :) Bring on the challenge! Bring it!

  • After that grueling exam, I had some of the girls come over for movies, home-made yummy foods, and wine of course. It was much deserved!!! cuz we worked our brains hard! One of the movies we watched was almost too serious for such an occasion, but it was good. Magdalene Sisters is about "three young Irish women struggling to maintain their spirits while they endure dehumanizing abuse as inmates of a Magdalene Sisters Asylum." Sad stories, but intriguing none the less. We then had to watch episodes of "Arrested Development" to get some laughs going. Anywho, good times were had by all.
  • I have a 4 day weekend (no class on Tuesday either) & amazingly absolutely no plans other than getting the house/yard in order & spending time with the hubby. I am sure I'll get some studying in there somewhere since I am needing to increase my nerdiness level again. Hoping to get some good movies in, too. There are a few out there that we want to see. "Superbad," Rob Zombie's version of "Halloween," "Bourne Ultimatum," etc. We finally rented "Hot Fuzz" last night & it was a hoot! Not as good as "Shaun of the Dead," (I agree, Jen), but funny Brit humor none the less. :) Love those guys & can't wait for more movies from them.
  • My final note of randomness: I have my FIRST PA JOB INTERVIEW on Tuesday. Whoa! So, another thing I am doing this weekend is preparing for that. Questions to ask, make sure one of my suits is clean, etc. Exciting & nerve-racking all at once. I'll let you all know how it goes of course......

Truly Amazing!

Good to be Busy Again

Well, the school semester officially started yesterday & so the real responsibilities have started again. It's good to be back on a some-what regular schedule. Don't get me wrong, having a lot of time off over this past summer was nice, but as you probably read/figured out, I was getting bored! Now, I have lectures to attend, assignments to complete, finish my research project, study groups to attend to get more serious about studying for the board exam, and get more aggressive with the job search. Plenty to do this fall semester.

It's nice to feel like I have a greater purpose again!!!

Oh, and I need to WORK OUT MORE!!!!!!! With our own personal little home workout room now more complete, I have NO excuse not to get some form of daily exercise!!!!

Keeper

A good message...

"I grew up in the 40's/50's with practical parents. A mother, God love her, who washed aluminum foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a Name for it.... A father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new ones.

Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things. A curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress Things we keep. It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing, eating, renewing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.

But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.

Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So... While we have it.. it's best we love it... And care for it... And fix it when it's broken.... And heal it when it's sick.

This is true... For marriage.... And old cars... And children with bad report cards..... Dogs and cats with bad hips.... And aging parents.... And grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with.

There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special.... And so, we keep them close!"

I received this from someone who thinks I am a 'keeper'. Good friends are like stars.... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there. Keep them close........

Any Advice?

I am going to spend part of today polishing my resume & constructing a cover letter. I periodically update my resume when I have something to add, and have done some polishing already since graduation is on the horizon. BUT now I have to get really serious. I am officially sending it out tomorrow to a potential employer. EEK! This is someone that I think I would really enjoy working for, and may have some great opportunities with. So, I need to shine. They already really enjoyed working with me during my clinical rotation & said "would hire me in a heartbeat," but I still want to do my best to impress. Believe it or not, I have never needed to write a cover letter, so this will be my first. It may be difficult for my loyal readers to give me specific advice since none are in the medical field, but any advice would be great. Luckily the hubby, who worked for a recruiting company years ago, said he will help me out. Hopefully he'll be home in time!

Feel free to give me your comments!!!

Oh, and wish me luck!
